Nautilus Shell

Surviving relatively unchanged for 450 million years, the Nautilus is one of the only shells to survive the dinosaur era.

 

The Nautilus shell unfolds & grows as its occupant outgrows each chamber. As the shell expands, its shape begins to approximate the Phi spiral; a key element of Sacred Geometry, displaying perfect mathematical proportion. 1.6180339 – a number that has no arithmetic solution, the decimals just keep on going into infinity without ever repeating themselves. The unique thing about this number is that it seems to be a geometrical blueprint for life itself. It can be found incorporated in all known organic structures. E.g. human bone structure, seed pattern of a sunflower, spiral of a sea shell.

 

The Nautilus shell is a symbol for the inner beauty of nature, a symbol of life & internal harmony.

 

The spiral itself is the symbol of creation, movement, fluidity & evolution. It reveals the cyclical nature of life & the relationship between unity & multiplicity. With no beginning & no end, spiral curls both eternally inward and outwards.
